The Telegraph reports that a campaign is being launched to promote the uptake of bird boxes in Britains gardens. There are fears that some of our best loved species do not have anywhere to nest as many natural nesting sites have been gradually disappearing. Two of our once common garden birds – the starling and house sparrow – have significantly dropped in population numbers since 1970.

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), supported by The Wildlife Trusts is asking us to play our part by building or buying suitable nest boxes.

National Nest Box Week runs until Feb 21st.
